At the heart of Lakeman is a commitment to protecting Lake Taupō. When tighter nitrogen limits changed the way surrounding land could be farmed, James and Elissa embraced a different approach — diversifying their operation while caring for the land, the lake and the future of their family.
That thinking continues today, with kaitiakitanga at the heart of how Lakeman operates.
Just outside Taupō, Lakeman Farm and Lakeman Brewing Co are where the Jimmy Coops story begins. James “Coops” and Elissa created a way to farm, brew and grow their business while helping protect Lake Taupō.
Today, the farm raises Simmental cattle, spent brewing grain is fed back to the herd, and the locally raised beef and award-winning Lakeman beer make their way to Jimmy Coops.
It’s local, connected and proudly Taupō.
What began in a small farm shed has grown into the award-winning Lakeman Brewing Co. Today, the team brews a diverse range of beers, from crisp lagers and rich stouts to popular hazy IPAs.
At the heart of every brew is pure water drawn from a bore 80 metres beneath the brewery — another reason protecting the Lake Taupō catchment matters so much.
Producing close to 6,000 litres of beer each week, Lakeman has become a proud part of Taupō’s craft beer story, earning numerous awards along the way.
